4sp auto o/d 2wd yota rebuild questions A43D

Hello all. Just ordered my rebuilt 22re with rv cam and bigger valves and h/d springs and ordered a h/d torque converter and can not find a rebuilt a A43D tranny in stock anywhere and am thinking of doing a rebuild myself. The tranny had a 161k miles on it slipped a bit before thrown a rod in the 22re but the truck is still in great condition body and frame wise so it makes total sense to renew the drivetrain portion and drive her another 160k. Anybody do a rebuild on this tranny before or has a lead on a rebuilt one. Did all of the searches on the forums and the Toyota google search.
One last question I had is parts to do a master rebuild are 250.00 plus another. 150 for valve body rebuild plus another 100 or so for the overdrive solenoid. 450.00 an do it myself or 850lus another 200 in roundtrip shipping to a well respected tranny rebuilders who will do it and warranty it for 3 yrs.
Any and all info is appreciated. Sorry for and sp. Errors this iPod touchscreen is tiny.

With all due respect. I have a A43D transmission. That is what is printed on the door frame sticker. It's a 4 speed w/ overdrive. I have a 1990 2wd extra cab column shift 4cyl 22RE. I do appreciate the people in forums because you can get the real nuts and bolt answers in laymans terms plus meet a lot of great people. Keep any comments or suggestions coming

Yup there's A340's and A43's all with different letters for different applications and manufacturers. I did learn that they even made a almost totally hydraulic version of the A43d like mine to the early taco's with an A43 electronic shift tranny.

Thanks and keep the info flowing. I did post a ad in the local c.list looking for someone to help me that is familiar with rebuilding trannys

Do you have the tools for a tranny rebuild? You will need a clutch spring compressor for removing snap rings under tension. Internal micrometers to check bushings. A dial indicator to check clutch pack piston movement etc...

I have an A340F sitting on my engine stand right now. I will open it up this week to check the hard parts. If the hard parts are in good shape I will be rebuilding it.

If you plan on rebuilding it yourself, I can recommend some books and videos to give you an idea of what is required. Just make sure you have the time and money for tools if you decide to do it yourself. The ability to fabricate your own tools is also handy.

Hey Rusty.. The money and time is not a problem. I have worked for the railroad for 15 yrs. Lancaster huh .... 4 hrs from me ..Albany NY.My fear is being taken by a shady transmission shop. Maybe a road trip is in order to PA with tranny in had with beer soda food and boat to do some fishing in the river and then a A43D rebuild that nite. If you are up to it LMK

Woah there!

Please look at the dates of posts before commenting.

Usually people here are not as blunt and incorrect as in the above, but that was due to not knowing about the A43D (as this is forum is primarily a 4WD site, there are only a handful of 2WD trucks here, including me.)

Typically the older the post, the more guessing and incorrect responses you will see. There was simply less information about these trucks available on this forum then than there is now.

Also, the demographics of YotaTech as changed over the years and is not as "hard core" off road as in its early days and has become a mix of dedicated off road, overland, and daily driver type of vehicles. Take a look at the sarcastic, rude, and unhelpful posts in other forums (cough.... cough.... pirate 4x4... cough...) and you will see that, by and large, YotaTech is pretty good.

The current batch of regulars here do our best to answer questions to the best of our ability.

I'm with you 100% on this. Most of the time a poster comes in an ask a question and it usually is followed with a smart remark about how it's been discussed already and how they should have searched first before asking. You do the search they mention and nearly 100% of the time end with either no solution or they never updated their status.

@yota tay, you are 100% correct, the only reason im here is to research stuff for my truck namely my A43D shifting issue, every single thread i have come across has been nothing but BS replies and misinformation....

so much so that i felt i needed to address it in this thread, i dont care how old the thread is people looking an answer to their questions are going to come across this thread and be mis informed....i will say it again, if you dont have the correct answer move along, no sense in potentially ruining ability to fix their car just becasue you felt the need to boost your post count.
