4Runner to Tacoma Tire/Brake swap
Hey guys.. Sorry to be a newb and all that. I'm a fairly new owner of a '96 4Runner SR5 2x4, and have some questions..
The 4Runner came with 15" rims with some 225 tires, and well.. I don't like em. Everything else is fine, it's got low miles ~120k. I believe it was some daddy's girl truck for college. Anyway.. I was looking at a wrecked late 90's Tacoma at a tow shop. It's been sitting there for at least 3 years, and I got to wondering.
Could I swap the tires and brakes from the Tacoma onto my 4Runner? No I haven't bought the truck, but the owner will be running an add pretty soon. I don't know the year, but it's a Tacoma TRD edition with the probably stock BF Goodrich tires. I like the height it gives the truck, and would like that on mine.
Would it be worth it if I could pick up the truck for ~500?
No, I don't do much off roading, but do like to get dirty some times. I plan on getting a '99 4Runner 4x4 a year or so from now..
If I've missed an article about this just link me. I appreciate it! Thanks!

See if it has the e-locker (might be able to recover your purchase price)
The wheels should swap.
Not sure if the brakes will swap over. We are swapping in a complete Taco rear axle into an 85 Xcab. The brakes look huge. Need to beef up the front brakes now.

The Taco's got the six spoke 16" rims and probably the larger brakes to go with it. I know I'd have to change the front calipers and discs, the rear drums etc..
Anyone know what else I could salvage from the truck? It's an automatic like mine.. Would a tranny swap be possible too

IMO for what you will spend on possible 10 year old calipers/rotors that could be worn out anyway to get some new tires...buy some new calipers/rotors and get the rims/tires you want.
Tacomas started in 1995.5.

If you have to ASK - its probably not worth it.
If you already know (read alot of threads) then you'd snag the parts that are worht $ and sell/use em.
On a vehicle I am going to drive - used calipers are for "core return" purposes only...

Yeah, yeah, yeah.. I'm new and don't know much about Toyota's.
I do know it is a late 90's Tacoma TRD. That would mean 16" alloy's with the larger brake package.
The tires would be a bolt on and a larger brake swap would be my next step.
I don't know what I can pull from which vehicles yet, and I appreciate the input and help. I'm trying to keep the "stock" look but give the 4Runner a little taller stance. Similar the '99s...

Most tacomas used a 15" rim. They made the spoked rim in both 15" and 16". If it truly is a TRD version, it will have the 16" rims.
If you want to upgrade the brakes, you will need the brake set up from a 16" wheel 4Runner or TRD tacoma (sounds like taht one is). Or even better, the tundra brake upgrade.
