4Runner Shifter boot material
 

I pulled my shifter boot over on my 4runner to see what I can do to make it look a bit nicer. IT is the cheap vinyl stuff, and it is flaking off the canvas backing. I can take a wire brush and remove the vinyl but it will eventually tear into the canvas. I am curious to know what i could use to speed up the removal of the vinyl coating so i can have the canvas only on the boot?

Since I swapped to a 151, the sticks wound up having custom bends- so I had to remake the boot. A short trip to JoAnne fabrics yielded 1/2 yard (lots of extra) for $12, I had some very pliable suede-backed vinyl.

To make a pattern, I just unstitched the old one, laid it out (with an extra 1/4 inch on each side for seam coverage).

or you could always use an old shoe w/a hole in the bottom.:drink:

if you have a shifter fetish i suggest biting the bullet and getting a new one from the dealer.

they are not cheap though. i bought one for a 1981 sr5 corolla and it was about $100 with an sr5 knob

having a shifter fetish isnt cheap

I dunno......... if you're talking about the little shifter foreskin looking deal that is on there, then you could probably just re do it in leather if that's what you want.
