3VZE timing marks

I purchased a reconditioned 3vze block and heads and it did not come with timing belt and gears. I was told the heads where resurfaced. The problem I am having is getting the timing marks to line up on the cams to the factory marks on timing cover. If the head where resurfaced will the stock timing marks still line up or do I need to adjust for it somehow. I can get them about a half a tooth off, but no closer than that. I have done many timing belts and never had this much trouble lining the marks up. Any help or advice you have is much appreciated.

they look lined up to me... If you are 1/2 tooth off, you can not get it any closer. If you moved one cam or the other, you will end up 1/2 tooth off to the other side..... Looks like it is as close as it is going to get... If it were mine, I would run it.

Off the top of my head...

Are you using a Toyota belt?

Did the builder use a thicker gasket to match what was removed?

If all else, I'd say the belt will let out as it's run...

I'd just make sure the half teeth were on the advance side so the belt would let them out on the side that will fall on the mark.

If it were mine I'd fuss with it some more. By which I mean remove the belt and start over. It looks like the crankshaft mark is just a tidbit past where it should be in the clockwise direction. If you were to get it dialed in perfect then that might put the left cam gear right about where it should be. But it would move the right cam gear closer to a full tooth off. Right and left as in the engine's, not yours.

Summed up...I think the right cam gear is 1 tooth off counter-clockwise.

Side-note: I had my heads resurfaced and it didn't make any noticeable difference in how the timing marks ligned up with stock-type/thickness head gaskets installed. And the belts are designed to NEVER stretch, so I wouldn't count on it doing so If I were you. I have also NEVER heard of, or seen, a case in which one did. In fact many live well past the time that they should be replaced, every 60K miles, without ever stretching or breaking.
