3VZE Rod journal tolerances

3VZE Rod journal tolerances
I had a rod knock in my 4Runner w/3VZE and found a bad bearing. Checked the journal and it is .023 out of round. Is this within tolerances? The surfaces feel good and wear is even side to side, no bad scratches or gouges.

Absolutely not. If you are talking about a crank journal .023 out of round you need a new (or rebuilt) crank. If you are talking about the rod inside dia. where the bearing is fited into being .023 out of round that too is way out and you need a new rod. I would check them all if one was that bad. Both the crank and the rod journals need to be round. With that much out of round it is surprising you had any oil pressure. Also if the crank is good be sure that the crank is not a regrind if you only replace the bearing so that you get the right size bearing.

Good deal. I thought that was a dang big number to overcome, but what I thought to be true was cast into doubt because I listened to someone else. I'm glad there are more knowledgeable people here and I was expecting to rebuild the thing anyway so I'll just stay the course.
