3vze last resort...

just bought 1990 toyota 4x4 pickup currently not starting.
to start off i have devoted whole days to this forum allot of good threads, I've followed everybody advice but I'm stuck.

items replaced in order:

-spark plugs and wires
-fuel pump (started not to start replaced and worked for two days)

parked it to do gasket job....

-value cover gaskets (due to a leak)
-PCV valve

put it back together.... no start...

-EFI main relay
-TPS (after doing hours of searching this forum)

took it to the shop....said it was timing... so i towed it back home.

-AFM +new filter old one was terrible(agin after doing hours of searching this forum)
-dizzy cap and rotor
-timing belt (because shop thought the problem was timing and it needed to be done anyway)
-ignition coil
-fuel pressure regulator

compression 90psi on second cylinder but i thing its due to lack of starting power because I've drained the battery and am running on my emergency battery jumpstarter. fuel pressure 40psi at the rail, I'm getting spark on every cylinder and everytime i pull the spark plugs there covered in gas. i have triple checked the timing and rotor position, dizzy is original could it be that? when ever i go to crank it over the AFM sounds like its going to die (loud clicking).... its within spec though... The tps is maxed out to one side but i get good ohms from the terminals..... please help...

You need a FSM. It details troubleshooting steps for all kinds of scenarios. Then it outlines troubleshooting steps and procedures.

Regarding the factory service manual, you can get it from the links below. I bought the Supplement there for $60, original yota, great shape.

This is the overview link:
http://www.factoryrepairmanuals.com/...r&year_id=1990

And here are the main manuals that you might need:

http://www.factoryrepairmanuals.com/...al-supplement/

http://www.factoryrepairmanuals.com/...lume-1-engine/

http://www.factoryrepairmanuals.com/...-2-volume-set/

You should be able to find them online as well, I prefer having the book in my hand when I do stuff like this. Hope this helps.

Is this the same as if I were to buy a manual?

Do you guys have any thoughts of your own on where I should start?

Fuel, air, spark: that's all you need to start. So if you have spark and fuel, are they both in the right place (in time)? Are you confident the spark plugs are firing at TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke (and not the exhaust stroke)? (A timing light will give the same answer either way -- This can be caused by a problem with the timing belt, or more simply with putting the distributor in 180° out. )
