3vze head gasket torque specs

Hello Everyone,

Does anyone happen to know the torque specs for the head gasket? I am changing mine out and don't know them. I did some searching and all I see are different torque specs and I don't know if its for the right motor!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Angelo

Here's the FSM for the cylinder head. Read it carefully. Page EG2-77 has the head bolt torqueing procedure. Notice there is no final torque spec - it's done by angle torqueing.

And what is angle torqueing?

Sorry if thats a dumb question.

No! It's not 33 ft-lbs and done.

Page EG2-77 of that link clearly explains the torque sequence. Read carefully what follow the 1st pass at 33 ft-lbs. There are two passes where the bolts are torqued an additional 90 degrees on each pass.

You can buy a tool just for that purpose http://www.autozone.com/test-scan-an...que-angle-tool. Personally, I put a dot from a wite-out pen (a white paint-pen would work better) on the top of the head bolt to keep track of the angle.

I would caution you that both the head and block deck surfaces must be tweekishly clean and degreased with acetone or similar solvent, and the new gaskets installed without using any dope of any kind.

Also triple check that the new gaskets are correctly set on the block, it is possible to lay them improperly with the result being immediate overheating problems, and the job having to be redone.

It is also helpful to grind the heads off of a couple old head bolts and screw them a few threads into the engine block in order to use them as guides when setting the heads down on the block.
