3vze engine cleanup

i just got a 5 speed 93 pickup with the 3vze with about 120,000 on it. engine seems to run fine, after doing power steering and brake lines. however, compared to my chevy small block, and my jeep straight 6, this engine is very cluttered and compacted. i was wondering is there any cheap mods or upgrades i can do to try cleaning this engine up and making it a lil more roomier to work on?

well, try a search on here for the ISR mod. its a direct connection pipe from the airbox to the throttle body. you remove a big box, and connect two hoses to the big pipe.

as far as actual "cleaning" i would use a toothbrush, some degreaser, and some tire shine or some rubber cleaner for the hoses. you can make your engine shine if you want to.

i saw your article to the IRS mod and i deff want to do it. stupid question but i see you only replace the hose from the throttle body to the round airbox, what is that smaller box to the left of the airbox and what does it do?
