Unhappy 3k rpm sputter

So I just rebuilt a 22re. I had the short block and adjustable cam gear done by local shops. I got my timing set to 8* with a timing light. It has new plugs, wires, distributor, alternator, battery cables, optima red top, and the valves have been set cold. I removed the EGR and the majority of my vacuum lines. I did my runs to get the rings seated and a few miles later (10 give or take) it started sputtering at 3000 rpms consistently. It ran like that until I got to my mechanic's place and then it stalled. Now it turns over, and seems to be laboring at that, and only starts on rare occasions. The fuel pump seems to be working. I get pressure at the fuel filter that I just replaced. The plugs aren't wet. My grounds all seem to be good. The only other issue I can think of is that the drivers side ground come in contact with the power wire on the alternator when I first tried firing it up, long story made short. I replaced the 80 amp fuse and the melted ground wire up to the inner fender. I followed the wiring across to the fuse box and the only wiring that appeared damaged was the section from the block to the inner fender. It ran fine at first after replacing that though. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I was having some vacuum issues so I eliminated the remaining few lines, I'll figure that out later and the connector to the distributor needed some help clicking in the whole way. Problem solved.
