30x9.50 or 31x10.5?
I just bought some black 15x8 AR wheels. I need new tires as well. I need something to go light off roading, but my rig is mainly a daily driver so I need something that won't be horrible on gas mileage. I have 31x10.5's now on 15x10's. Will going to a 30x9.5 make much of a difference? Or should I slap another set of 31x10.5's on the new 15x8's?

I was contemplating 9.5's on my truck, but they're a hard tire to find. Seems everyone wants 12.5's now. BF Goodrich is discontinuing their 33x9.5x15s, from what I was told. Now, I'm not sure about their other 9.5s, but it's something to think about if you can't replace one if it's ruined.

It depends on your gearing. What are your rev's like with the 31's? Did your rig come with stock 31's or 28's? If your rig came with stock 225/75/15, I would say go with the 30 x 9.5. If it came stock with 31's, stick with the 31's.

I'm not sure exactly what tranny, but it's a 5 spd manual with the 22RE. My truck does pretty good on the stock 225/75/15's, getting about 20-21 mpg. Once I put on the 31's I go down to like 15-17. Remember, the rims I have on now are 15x10 & I'd be going to a 15x8.

Ya, that sounds like a nice tire size. I'd really go for those, but they are really hard to find. I haven't had much luck. I got prices for some Hercules Terra Trac 30x9.5 $84 each. The 31x10.5 is $94 each. I have read some good stuff about the Terra Trac.

I would say stick with 31's anything smaller just looks lame on these trucks, Remember, you are driving a truck! give it what it deserves. Ive got 31's and have got 21 MPG and that's on an auto tranny.

My last truck had 31'' and my truck now has 30'' and there really isn't any difference except I do get better gas mileage with this truck although I can't say it's the tires. With my 30'' I get around 20-22 mpg with a mostly highway driving but some city. I really don't think it's much of a difference to matter but if I were you I'd get the 30''
