3.0 won't stay running with out giving throttle
Just swapped a engine in my truck and I am haveing trouble getting it running runs ok with my foot on gas and as soon as I let out the clutch or stop giving throttle it dies out anybody have any idea what it might be

When its running the timing is at 5degress before Tdi but that Is with the truck at about 1500-2000 rpm because I have to keep on the throttle for it to run what other info would be helpful in trouble shooting this prob

That sounds pretty retarded. The spec is 10º at idle (with the jumper in, but do check your sticker). At 1500 rpm the distributor should advance the ignition, so you're probably retarded by more than 5º.
I'd look at that first.

Double check the vacuum connections. Specificly the idle bypass, it might not sucking thru the VAFM. The big hint to this is a loud air sucking sound.
You also can't get a reliable reading of the timing while the computer isn't reading the IDL connection(eg while you have the throttle open to maintain engine speed).
Unplug the VAFM, or fuel pump, and check the timing while cranking to get a since of the initial timing.
