3.0 V6 Timing Question

I have installed, and reinstalled this timing belt and it seems like it will never line up with the marks perfect on the #3 timing cover, any tips on getting this? I did try to start it, and everything lines up perfect except the right hand pulley its about a tooth off. And the truck wont even fire.

This truck has really kicked my butt!

If it's "about" a tooth off, then it is one tooth off. You can't be off by 1/2 tooth.

When you install the belt, you can rock the cams back and forth to get the belt to drop in the right place (non-interference engine; you won't hurt anything). So put the crank at TDC, pull all the slack out the driver's side, put it on the cam, work around the passenger side and through the tensioner. When the tension comes on, you should still be at TDC and the cam marks should be pointing straight up. Turn the crank two revolutions in the running direction, and the marks should end up in the right place again. (Ignore any marks on the belt.)

Not to discourage you, but the truck should fire even with one cam off by one tooth. Did you pull the distributor? Could you be off by 180 degrees (or any thing else) on the ignition timing? Do you have a timing light?

I got it, after I posted I checked the distributor and it was off.

It runs GREAT, cools good, revs up great, when its at idle, it is popping out of the exhaust, most of the time this has to do with timing, but everything is spot on, what do you guys think?
