3.0 v6 89 4rnr - oil filter location?

Im considering buying an 89 4runner with a 3.0 liter v6 engine - the entire truck is stock. No lift. Is it easy or complicated to get at the oil filter, on this engine? Id like to finally buy a truck with an easy to reach and twist oil filter location. thx

It's not terribly difficult to access. You have to reach up from below. Remove the front skid plate, the filter is on the driver's side of the block.

on the 2nd gen i can get to it without removing the skid plate, but it does get a little messy. its definatley easier with it off.

and dont take it to Jiffy rip-off. They charge you a $10 "skid plate removal fee"

I get to mine by turning all the way to the left and reaching from inside the wheel well. The oil just drips onto the skid plate and down to the oilpan on the floor.

I'm sure this thread has been just about beat to death but I felt like adding my 2 cents

I also do it this way. It's pretty fast, and it's harder to get at any other way. some rags under it help with the drips

There are relocation kits available. Maybe someone will chime in on how well they work (or don't). Basically let's you move the filter elsewhere and maybe bumps up the capacity slightly with the additional hoses.

Example:

I am sure there are others.
