2wd w/Dana 30 swap for light duty use
So I have a 88 2wd Pickup. The truck is in good shape and only needs the front end worked over. Mainly ball joints and bushing ect.
This truck is my DD, I will not be using it for anything except driving on the street and some grass/ dirt field use to get to friends bonfires ect. No rock crawling or major off-roading.
My idea is to slowly build up the truck to make a suitable snow/ field truck on a budget. I can weld and fabricate basic things.
The plan is to use a dana 30 solid axle with ruf springs and a divorced transfer case, I want to reuse as many of the parts as I can. The divorced case would allow the use of driver drop axles. I have not decided on what transfer case I will use.
What is your opinion on this idea and in what ways can it be improved within financial reason?

Improved? A $200 Toyota axle with a knuckle rebuild kit and a used Toyota w56 w/ an RF1A transfercase.
Hell, buy a newer w59 and get a marlin adapter and use the RF1A transfercase. You'll have a newer trans with the proven gear drive case.
I don't recommend putting Jeep parts on a Toyota and not just because of stigma.
D30's are a waste of time.

The only divorce transfer cases I can think of off hand are Atlas, NP205, and I think Dana 300.
Like scuba said use toyota parts. You can easily find a 4wd trans and transfer case. Front toy axle, I wouldn't say easy but there are plenty out there.
If you do get a toyota front axle you will have to get a 4wd rear axle also to be 6 lug, and get matching wheels.

What size tire are you going to be running? Im with these guys on calling you crazy for running a tiny axle such as a d30, but for a mostly stock truck a d30 should hold up pretty well. They can be built to take the abuse of 35s reliably.
You can get adapters to turn a toy case into a divorced case. Sammy cases are divorced, What about a drivers drop chain drive case from a tacoma?
Plans for the rear? d44? 8.25? Youll want to match the new front lug pattern I assume?
You should really just get a 4wd trans/t case and run a toy axle...

I really would like to use a Toy front axle but I'm having a hard time find one local to me.
Would a land cruiser axle work?
I know they are wider but I would be ok with that. I friend of mine may have a set of cruiser axles for sale (front and rear).
If I could get them for 300 or so would that be a worthy investment?
