2rz 1995 tacoma 5 speed/ losing ign

My truck seems to be losing ignition when climbing rpms between gears, it kinda bumps real fast, sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row
sometimes once, Idles perfect, when sitting revs strong no problem, just when under load.
Checked
Plugs..................................replaced
Plug wires...........................replaced
Dist Cap.............................replaced
Coil....................................replaced
Dist Rotor...........................replaced
EFI Relay............................checked ( swapped with Stop lamp relay ) and ohms check all good
TPS...................................replaced
Throttle Body......................cleaned
MAF..................................checked ( within specs)
EGR.................................checked ( unplugged vac line, went for a ride, no change)
Crank Sensor....................checked ( ohms within specs )
Fuel pressure...................checked ( installed gauge ) great specs.
Fuel injectors...................checked ( cleaned connectors) Checked Ohms 14.5 across the board all 4. clicking perfectly.
Air Filter..........................replaced ( not really dirty )
Oxygen sensors..............checked all pro forming great
Fuel trims.......................STFT@ 1.3 / LTFT@ - 2.1 Well within specs
Timing advance checked right on the money
This is a 1995 with OBD2, I have a Actron Reader. I get no Codes at all, Nada
I actually took it to the Local Toyota Dealership, Not what I wanted to do, but I thought they might tell me whats happening.
In the end, they said they have no idea, he checked it for 1 and 1/2 hours, came up with nothing. Go figure
He basically said that it was a ignition problem, either the Dist or the Igniter, I asked him If I were to replace, which one
should I go for first, he said Dist.
Under load its losing ignition to the plugs ?, the loses are for maybe a 1/2 sec, kinda, bump/bump/bump then go,
Warm or cold same thing. starts great, revs great, only happens under load.
Any Ideas help...........have been troubleshooting for 2 weeks. driving me crazy
Have owned this truck since new, 23 years`, well cared for,

No codes my first thought is you have a poor ground connection.

It might be the main grounds from the battery it might be the ECM ground.

This would not trip any codes

it could also be a loose connection almost any place as the engine moves the connection opens

i hope these parts were in need of replacing sometimes throwing parts can make things worse by adding even more to the problem

Thanks

Normally I never throw parts. But this is blowing my mind. I have checked my grounds, but I
will check them again. thanks for your input.
The TPS and Coil is the only wasted money so far.

Grounds

Went over the grounds again, they were all in good shape. Actually put a different battery in
out of my car, almost brand new, still same Ign drop out under load.

Ok, I might have just found my problem, happened to unplug my Alt, and I found corrosion, first I found out of all the plugs Ive checked
sprayed it down with electrical spray cleaner good. Going to let dry over night, and try in the morning, see if that fixed anything.
I dont have a wiring diagram so not sure where those 3 wires go to, but if any of them have anything to do with the Ign, I might
be getting somewhere. That plug had not been taken out in 23 years !!

Buy checking your grounds you removed them and cleaned everything??

Battery terminals clean and tight??

Any of the fuses loose in the sockets ??

the connections for the igniter and distributor .

It can be something as simple as a bent pin in a connector that causes a open circuit causing it to stumble .

Doubtful it is the alternator plug but it can`t hurt to clean it .

Was the charge light coming on ?

What is the battery voltage while this happens ??

Intermittent problems that don`t manifest during testing can drive the best of us crazy.

Yes removed grounds and cleaned.
checked all fuses, non loose, fuse blocks look brand new
both igniter and dist connections tight and clean , no bent pins
No charge light coming on
I dont have a inside 12 volt gauge, and it only happens when going under load.
About ready to plug the Alt back in and go for a ride, wish me luck
I will post what happens.
I would love to know where those 3 wires from the Alt plug go to
I have both FSM for this truck, but I guess you need a separate manual to get wiring diagrams. Thanks Toyota

The only way a bad alternator might cause your problem is if the battery voltage was so low the loss of alternator output would drop system voltage so low the ECM goes into hibernation mode to save itself .

I would check the wires to the fuel pump check the circuit opening relay is not full of water.

The good old corrosion unseen to the naked eye !

Tests good with Meter plugged together does not work yet looks fine

So, great news.............I fixed it, thats right, back running like a little Tacoma should.
In the end it was the Dist, I looked at the old one, and it had no play in the shaft, gear
looked great, I had already replaced the coil, the specs weren't great, but the new one
did nothing, I had the same problem. Bought a brand new dist from parts.com. That was
560.00, but it was the whole dist with all the internals, and cap. Stuck it on today, went for a
ride tonight. And it runs perfect, no skips or bumps. I believe it was the Signal Generator
going bad, and intermittently not sending a signal back to the Igniter telling it that the plug was
fired, and when that happened, the computer would cut fuel quickly so the cyls would not
load up with fuel, but then it received a split sec later and it would add gas again, giving the feeling
of quick bumping , ever now in then, but it was getting worse.
But anyway its fixed. And Toyota could not find the problem. Shame on them. YEA
The Little Tacoma with 257,000 miles is back on the road again

Glad you got it fixed!

Signal generator in the distributor. Remember running around with two or three sets of points in my car when the points would go bad. Back in the day a good set was only about $5. The points were the signal generator. Pop the distributor cap, remove two screws, take a corner of a match book(feeler gauge), gauge the points, and no more engine miss. Now it costs an arm leg to replace a signal generator.
