So we've done just a tad over 2400 miles so far going from Albuquerque NM towards Devils Lake ND and so far I can say I'm darn glad I regeared the beast and REALLY glad I did the Zuk mod. Lots of hills where the gears helped out and a lot of weight where the Zuk stepped in. We have another three hours to drive tomorrow and we'll be at our destination.

Fuel milage goes from 24mpg to 13mpg depending on hills and head winds. Burned about half a quart of oil and believe I've developed a random miss, and there is a new wobble between 3300 and 3600rpm. I'll have to diagnose those tomorrow when we've finally stopped for a while.

Nice! That's definitely a road trip.

I have 33's and 4.88 gears and got 15mph, fairly well loaded, going up a long mountain run and back where I had to drop down into 3rd gear...and get passed by a bus. I normally get 20 around town and 18 with mixed wheeling.

As for your new wobble, Is that in top gear at speed or in any gear at 3300-3600rpm?

If at speed in top gear, is it not present at 3000rpm then comes on as you reach 3300rpm? Does it get worse if you are in a long sweeper either way?

I would check to see if your balance weights are still all attached...especially if they are stick-ons... after a 2400 mile trek. Its easy, free, and could explain you problem.

I took my 4Runner to work on Thursday and as I was backing it out of the garage notice a big strip of balance weights laying on the floor. A pretty bad wobble btwn 62 & 67mph and worsened when on a bend where the tires were out of phase.

The wobble is there in every gear as far as I can tell but I can feel it more in 5th. It kind of wobbles, then stops, then wobbles, then stops every 8-10 seconds until I'm up into higher rpm.

Good for you! I love taking long rides in my truck. I just drove from Colorado to Massachusetts back in June and I developed a miss somewhere along the way as well. Got back back here did a valve adjustment and a tuneup and she's good to go again.

How many days did you take to do the 2400 miles? I usually average about 700 miles a day in my truck, most I've done is 1100 but that's pushing it with the old bench seat.

Good to hear that, Junker!

You still have to try that ZUK mod plus two......I just made that up but it is kinda catchy

The plus two is that anti-wrap leaf thing I did on my Tacoma.....I took the springboard leaf from an older Yota truck(like yours) and spun it around so that the clamp is now on the front half of the pack....I custom bent the front half to conform to the curve of the leafpack and clamped it tightly together. In my case, I CUT the rear portion of the springboard off but I would like to see you NOT do that as I think your payload ability could be effected and let's not do that.

You might think it would stiffen your ride a little but I suspect not.....you will love the "No mo wrap" feature, for sure. ZUK
