22re is it worth it?

Is it worth $1500 for a used genuine toyota 22re installed with all new gaskets and belts and hoses. plus i get to keep my original engine. do all 22re's use alittle oil? my original 22re engine has a rod knock, rebuilding it would cost more than getting this other one. i am trying to get this 4runner ready so i can drive it this winter.

Only if it is worth it to you.

I am guessing here that you are unable to swap the engine for what ever reason.

So for the $1500.00 does this engine come with a new timing chain and head gasket ??

What kind of mileage ??

Is the seller going to warrant the engine??

All engines will use some oil just depends if it is 2 fluid ounces or a quart or more between oil changes .

he said he would put new front and rear main seals. i have no idea on mileage. he said the headgasket is good. 30 day warranty.

I got my 22re rebuilt for $1100

Runs about $700 for an exchange rebuild here in my town from a reputable engine builder, if you are unable to swap a motor yourself or have friends that can help you then i guess you are going to have to pay the fiddler

If it is a great motor it would probably be a good deal. But it is a used motor so there is some chance involved with it. For myself, I wont rebuild another one as it is cheaper to buy a rebuilt over rebuilding one from my experience.

Wish I was on this forum earlier. I just got my bottom end rebuilt for $1200 in PA.

Its never to late. There is a ton of information on here that can help you get many miles out of your new motor. After a few hundred miles I would torque the head bolts again. Buying a new head can be cheaper then having the old head re worked in some cases.

Just reset the valves yesterday

And it has the factory exhaust on it. You know of a good online site to buy a complete exhaust 2 inch???

Terrys87 Apr 17, 2016 03:35 AM

I have never bought one on line. I have a great exhaust shop in my area and it does well for me. He has a book with the specification as to how the factory bends to fit like it was new.

Check walkerexhaust.com and see what they have. From what I have seen it should just bolt right in.

Micko002 if you plan to have the head built

Port and polish

Oversize valves

New Cam

Not sure just where your going here but building horsepower in the 22R series is very expensive

So unless your building the head a bigger exhaust is not really going to help other then being new .

i have always run the stock exhaust system on stock engines .

Good luck and Welcome!!

I am a hour away if you ever get stuck:wrench:
