22re will start but dies right away

Hello all,

I got a Toyota RV recently. It is an '88 with 4cyl.
Had it delivered and the seller had said it worked the day b4 it was picked up!
I had my mechanic check the fuel pump and replace the fuel filter. He said the injectors are putting fuel out.

What else should we be checking?

Thanks!

Make certain that the plastic tube that goes from the upper plenum over across the radiator to the air box is sealed up tight. Make sure the clamps are tight and there's no hole in the plastic tube.

Thanks, will do. The guy I bought it from said it was running good the day before it was picked up...then just started acting up. It has about 76K miles on it.

My mechanic said he can get it running for about 10-15 seconds and then it dies. Are there certain sensors or fuses that would cause the injectors to stop spitting fuel?

No, but the fuel pump might not be running. The STA (key to start) signal runs the fuel pump, but when you let go of the key (and turn to "On") the fuel pump is held on by the VAF and COR (circuit Opening Relay).

Easy to test; jumper FP to B+ on the diagnostic connector. If your truck now runs, you've located the problem.

Thanks, I shared this info with my mechanic. He said he has tested this. He thinks it may be something with the injector harnesses or the ignition switch. He's still running tests.

My mechanic got it running and staying running, however, every now and then it will just due. He is still trying to figure out why.
The problem causing it not to stay running was due to a old/bad harness under the hood.
