Hi, i have a 89 22re and i was wondering if i were to block off my EGR and the smog stuff, would it help out for power at all? Also, is there any downfalls from doing this? What all would need to be blocked off?

There's a few posts around here about blocking off the EGR stuff, and from the posts i've read the authors always say they've never had a large power increase from it. It does, however, make the engine bay a lot cleaner and more organized with the emissions stuff blocked off.

blocked off the EGR, made a stainless plate to mount to the intake plenum, and cut the original EGR valve where it meets the head, welded it full, then ground it flat and painted it.



i also had to put a 10k ohm resistor in the plug for the egr temp sensor so no check engine light.

i bought it not running, so i don't know if it made any difference in running, but i figured while i was in there i'd do it. i do it on all my cars when the opportunity arises.

well I can tell you it wont pass any emmissions test after the doing so

I can assure you power gain will be minimal, probably not even noticeable, but it will take some clutter away. The only main issue a few will run into, which I did acutally once, is the motor running a little warmer than normal.

Use the "Search" feature, there's soooo many threads on this, I'm not going to start to explain the deal...

considering the EGR system should only operate at part throttle, there would be no net increase in power.
