22re rough idle in gear???
 

so i rebuilt my engine, sounds great when sitting at idle but as soon as u put it in gear it sputters like its going to die. seems like a vacuum problem but i cant find it idk have any ideas????

Run a search, bro. Seriously......there's several possibilites and it's been covered many times.

I'm guessing its an auto? Check for vac leaks. Idle and timing set correctly? Vac leak in main intake hose?

Lol.......oh well. So much for encouraging the friendly search feature.

Even if it's a 5spd, same suggestions apply.

problem is so many of those searches give you good suggestions, but very few post back once they find a fix

well der i tries a search engine or 2...3.. but i was just asking for ideas, ill look for vacuum leaks but i tried as such... thanks i guess..
yes its an auto.

and yes i made sure its in time idle perfect too but it seems weird that it onys happens when i put it in gear... so idk

When you've put it in gear, you've put a load on the engine. So, let's say it's not getting enough air to the combustion chambers to compensate for the load. Could be the idle air control valve not opening enough. Does the symptom seem to change at all according to temperature or amount of driving?

..... Doesn't seem like your trying awefull hard to help yourself as we try to help you. Vac leak check yet? Check intake hose closely. Hear any hissing type sounds? What is your idle at?

I'd find someone with a smoke machine to rule out vacuum leaks. And/or run a test on the idle air valve.

so i eliminated the vacuum, it was that the advance on the timeing is not working, so advanced it manually and it now has plenty of power but i still dont now how the advance works on theses. im use to a chevy w vacume advance so i still dont know what to fix to get it to advance on its own??

No, no.....no need to do that.

The ECU advances timing on an EFI engine based on input from the coolant temp sensor, throttle position sensor, oxygen sensor, and airflow meter voltage input. You can advance the timing, sure, by advancing the distributor, but that's not going to solve the problem. If you have to advance the timing to get it to run right, then it could be running to rich. But, there's several things that can cause that to happen. And, being that it's electronically controlled tranmission, things get even a little more complicated. So, best to start simple.......

You said the timing won't advance. What do you mean? How'd you determine that?

i set it at 5 degrees at idle then reved it up and the timing just stayed a 5 degrees when its supposed to advance to 33 degrees at driving rpm.. but it doesn't. thats how i know.

Okay. Just asking so I can try and figure out what's going on.

Have you checked the TPS adjustment?
