22re:Rod bearing fix or engine replacement?
Hello, i have a 1988 toyota 4runner 22re and the rod bearings(s) are going out. My question is should i repair the rod bearing (quoted @ $850-not having to pull the engine) or build up another engine block? i have heard bad things about buying re-builts, things like forgetting to put some seals in the engine. Someone mentioned trying to convert it to a diesel, if anyone might have any advice on this situation i would greatly appreciate. -thanks.

I pulled the diff, dropped the pan and changed mine myself in my driveway. As long as the crank is ok you should be fine, but for $850 I'd get a new engine.

If you're capable of the work you can do it for less than $100.
Remove the diff, drop the pan change 1 at a time. Can be done in a weekend. When I did mine, I had to replace the crank, so pulled the motor, and still was finished in 1 weekend. |
