22re rear end w/ mods or V6 rear end for ELocker

hey,
just looking to possibly do this E locker diffy and was wondering:

Would it be easier to get a v6 rear end and bolt it all up or mod the 4cyl rear end in my truck?

would a v6 rear end fit in a 4cyl truck - no mods?

thanks folks,
kirk

Why not just find an E locker 3rd already together and swap it in?

Try reading this:

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota-tech/r...toyota-elocker

A V6 rear end will fit in a 4cly. All 8" toyota 3rds are interchangable. The E Locker, however, need a bit of trimming and dome stud relocation to fit.

Hope that helps.

thanks rattlewagon,
i have read that article. helpful link - i was looking for it again....

i do intend to just swap out the third member but i just was thinking it 'd be nice to avoid the axle housing mods necessary on the 4cyl rear housing. That's what i've got.

The elocker third bolts right in to the v6 rear housing, right???

good to know the v6 rear end will fit in my 4cyl truck - i thought it would!

thanks

just to clarify - when i say rear end i mean the whole rear end.

if i swap the 4cyl rear end housing for the v6 rear housing then the elocker will bolt right up w/out mods - right?

it appears after reading this ARTICLE - that the v6 rear end axle housing does NOT need mods unlike the 4cyl. housing.

Can anyone confirm this?

Elockers will not fit in non elocker housings without cutting, grinding, welding, drilling and tapping, regardless of 4 cyl or V6.

I will also add that modifying a normal housing for an elocker ruins it for anything in the future.

I have numerous friends that tried elockers in older axles and not a single one of them has an elocker now. Personally, unless swapping the whole axle or having one in a newer vehicle from the factory, I wouldn't have one.

Alright then. Thanks for the info. That's what i was getting at - Good to hear it's NOT really worth it.

It helps to know before i go through all that work! Maybe factory setup but i'll check out other options...

I talked to someone at OX locker, they're working on a cable locker for us yota third member folks! They are expensive, though there is no air or electric motor, etc required.

Thanks
