22RE ignition timing

92 toyota, won't get out of it's own way with less than 25 degrees of initial timing. I have checked the timing marks on the chain and it is correct. I have checked the throttle cable adjustment, it too is correct. Thought it might be a knock sensor problem. This truck doesn't have one. I took it to an independent Toyota expert (20 yrs in the service department), he verified
that there is NO knock sensor and that the throttle adj. was fine. So, any ideas or known secrets?

when was the last tune up, and fuel filter changed. have you checked the TPS?

I need to check the TPS yet. I haven't had this truck very long, the tune parts all look new. The guy I bought it from had the chain tensioners replaced, new wires, cap, plugs, fuel and air filters. It really runs good, I put about 2200 miles on it this way, 26 mpg. When I get back to where it is parked I'll check the TPS.

when i bought my truck it ran like crap did the complete tune and still ran like crap, turned out the TPS was off a little.

It should have a knock sensor.. It was designed for one and usually throws a code if there isn't one attached.

Could it have been removed? Sure.

Could it be impacting your timing advance? Very likely.

Yea, where is your knock sensor? They all have them.
