22re head bolts too long?
Almost done with my hg repair and had just finished cleaning out the bolt holes for the head bolts. Then I discovered this
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...Picture054.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...Picture053.jpg Should I worry that the new bolts are a few mm longer than the originals? I threaded the new bolt till it bottomed out into the block (I filled the hole with carb cleaner before I put the bolt in to mark off how deep the new bolt went). I then dropped the same bolt thru the rocker and head and looked underneath the head to see if there were any dry threads showing at the bottom. All the threads exposed were wet so just wondering if I should be worried that the new bolts are a little longer and just use the old bolts (inspected tham all and they are all fine) or should I just use the new ones even though they seem slightly longer? Thanks in advance. |
You shouldn't have any problems. Make sure you chase the holes in the block with a tap before reassembly and clean everything real good.

20/22R head bolts are longer:roll:
I wouldn't use them, they could mess up the torque reading... |
I couldn't take a picture of the label on the box.
It basically reads: Toyota 4, 22RE (2.4) Eng., 2366cc 1981-95 Now I remember reading that the early 85's and older had a slightly taller head. So the date on this thing confuses me. Other than that the info is right. |
