Alright, the question has came up SO many times, so here's the final answer

I don't think I could make this any more simple :D

This wire comes right off the - terminal of the battery, and follows the + wire leading to the starter. It splits out of that harness right by the upper control arm and runs over to the engine block. On AC equipped models (as shown) this wire bolts to the AC compressor mounting bracket via one of the bolts that bolt it to the block. Without AC, I can only assume that the wire bolts directly to the block itself.

This wire is bundled in the wiring harness for the alternator. It splits off from the harness and runs up to a bolt at the rear of the power steering pump that mounts the pump to its bracket.

This ground goes DRECTLY from the cylinder head (bolts to the head using the same bolt as the engine hoist hook does), and runs right to the firewall.

This is probably the most commonly overlooked and asked about ground on the 22re. It sprouts off of the same wiring harness that runs between the upper and lower intake and has all the fuel injectors and VCV pigtails as well. It is actually 2 wires, that both bolt together at a bolt that secures the upper and lower intake together.

i have all of those grounds hooked up, except for #3. i wonder if i should hook it up. lol

oh and if you dont have #4 hooked up, you will get a constant check engine light, at least i did. lol.

lmao, yeah the motor was pretty dirty during the tare-down when I took all the pics :roll: the first pic is the completed motor though :D

So whats the point of #3?. Its cut on mine and I didnt know it was a main engine ground. I was just kind of like :think: hm, a random grounded wire:think:

Oh and without A/C, #1 does bolt directly to the block :hillbill:

Well in a nut shell, #3 grounds right to the head, and that makes it a direct ground for the electrodes on the spark plugs. Without it, you may not be getting as strong of a spark as you could be getting with it :great:

If #3 was not grounded, would it contribute to/cause pinging?
