22re Bucking under acceleration, runs great when let off gas.

Alright I've been dealing with this for a while. Thought it was a timing issue, but I've ruled that out.

I've tried the search box, but the terms I'm thinking probably aren't right, so I give. If you all have a thread with this answered, please post it up.

Here's what's going on. Rough idle when hot and cold. Bucks like mad under acceleration; exhaust sounds like tail pipe is under water. As soon as take my foot off the gas, she runs PERFECTLY. Exhaust sounds normal. As I posted in another forum, my coil wire has a duct tape patch on it because it was arcing to a hose clamp on the p/s pump. I'm going to replace the wires tomorrow, but wanted to get some feedback now and get a list started of things to check because I'm pretty sure that's not going to be the problem. It ain't gonna be that easy. BTW it bucks no matter what RPM.. from 750 all the way up to 5750, she sounds horrible under acceleration.

Replaced fuel filter, PCV, spark plugs with HG about 7000 miles ago, cap and rotor probably 15000 miles ago. She ran perfect for about 6 months after HG replacement.

Any ideas/links to other threads would be greatly appreciated.

The underlying problem may be the "new" hood I put on a while back. It's from a 3VZ-E....

Read through my post below and see if this is similar to my issue. Ended up being the pickup coil inside the distributer.

i had a 85 22RE that had similar issues. It would idle great, but once under acceleration, it would act like it was runnin outta gas and would buck hop shake rattle and roll. But mine would not do it if the engine was cold, it would run fine. As soon as it warmed up, it would do it. I replaced the fuel filter, plugs, wires, dizzy cap, rotor button, re timed it and everything. Turned out to be a bad TPS. Process of elimination sucks when the parts aint cheap!!

I'd test the TPS first.

Simple fix. New wires and she runs like a champ. Wish I would've done this first, but things are never this easy for me.

LOL yeah I tried to find electrical tape but my 5 rolls went MIA. My #2 wire pretty much disintegrated in my hand when I pulled it off. This is the 4th "lifetime guarantee" set of wires I've put on. When I have time to wait on ordered NGK wires I'm switching to those. Life is good.

Hi everyone this is my first time posting here and I am having a problem with arcing on the plug wires and coil. So far I have put new plugs cap and wires including the coil wire and also pulled off and cleaned all the grounds I can find. I ha e swapped the coil and ignited assembly off of a running 22re that matched and no luck. The air gap on the coil is good and all free of dust and oils. The only thing I notice that's different is its arcing from the coil wire plug on the coil to the positive and negative studs on the coil. I found this out by putting a piece of metal I between them and could tell which side it came from. I'm pretty much stumped on this one. It idles good but give it much gas and it misses. Also my tach jumps around. Any ideas?

I'm having a really hard time visualizing this. Can you put up a pic.. maybe draw me a picture... maybe it's the meds...

Something definitely sounds haywire, especially with all of the parts you've already replaced.

Wait... was it arcing from this spot before the above mentioned coil and wire swap? or after?

Well it was our King before and that is why I changed it because I was thinking I had some bad plug wires or something I will post a pictur soo as I get as I get a chance if I turn on the lights of you can see the ark prett you can see the ark pretty well is t is there anything else that would possibly do this other than ground wires or the plug wires and stuff? I even unplugged the alternator but it's definitely no but it's definitely not it. Any ideas? Lol........ I cleaned and tested all the grounds on the motor and still does it. Could the efi computer possibility do that? I have a book on it also. It has 200,000 miles o. It. Original motor with new head and timing set. Great compression..... I took the plugs out and put them on the wires and cranked it over. The spark looks good

OK so I narrowed it down to possibly a hot wire touching the body. If I take my volt meter and touch it to the body I get readings. It should show 0? I would think.... so far that's what I have but I can't find anything frayed or broken. Is there any areas well known for this?
