22RE alternator belt installation
Hi All,
I'm trying to install the alternator belt in my 22RE. The timing marks that are attached to the block sit too close to the crank pulley for the belt to slip in. Any tips on how the belt goes on?
Thanks, Bill

So......
This is where I come in with my tail between my legs.
The belt had broken, so I didn't see how it was installed. I went back and noticed the water pump pulley directly over the crank pulley which was hidden under the tensioner pulley.
Problem solved.

Loosen the large 17-19mm nut on the power steering idle/tensioner. Loosen the adjacent 10-12mm bolt this pully is tightened with. Remove the power steering belt from the two upper pullies (idle & pump)
Loosen the 12mm bolt at the top of the alternator. Remove the belt from the pulley and crank pulley. Feed the belt over the fan blades by rotating it towards the front over the lower 1-2 fan blades, the spin the fan around by hand to move the belt through.
Feed the new belt on the same way. It will sit in the rear most groove of the crankshaft pulley. Feed the onto the water pump/fan pulleys. Press the alternator towards the engine, them place the belt into the alternator pulley.
Put your 12mm ratchet on the alternator top bolt, now feed a pry bar behind it (on the engine side) lever against the power steering pump to tension the belt while tightening the ratchet/bolt down.
PS it's quite possible I got a wrench size wrong, I think there is a 14mm in there somewhere.
