22RE AC Compressor belt tension pulley

'88 4Runner 22RE with AC. I need to change the alternator belt but can't get the A/C compressor tension pulley to move.

I've had 2 other 22RE's with AC and both had the tension pulley below the compressor (easy to reach). This one is different. Anybody worked on one like this?

Is the circled bolt what I need to loosen? It is a b!tch to get to...

If it's like the 3vze, the AC compressor idler pulley has a jack-screw type adjustment for tension, so just loosening the mounting bolts won't allow it to move. You have to back off the jack screw tensioner after you loosen the hold-down bolts.

Thx for the reply. I guess I was just too tired and frustrated (or stupid) yesterday to see it.

Looked at it today and figured it out. I was trying to make it harder than it was...

My truck is running again.

Hey Guys Sorry to revive this thread but I'm helping a friend change his belts and have the same setup as in the picture. I've looked all around the tensioner pulley / bracket and can't find a bolt that would adjust the tension. From looking at the picture can you tell me where the adjusting bolt is located? or what steps need to be taken to loosen the belt?

Thanks

Does the compressor have a slot for movement on the other bolt that holds it on that you can't see in the photo? Might just have to loosen both bolts that hold the compressor and rotate it to loosen the tension.

I looked underneath and don't see any way to adjust the compressor itself bolt holes are not adjustable. Here is a picture of the view from underneath

Loosen that bottom bolt holding the pulley arm, looks like it may rotate or slide down to loosen the tension.
