22R-E head SWAP 1988 to 1992 ????
Howdy tore down my 1992 i was getting coolant in the oil.. So i figured head gasket at the least ...
Well its a bit worse!! i examined the head sure enough a cracked HEAD!!!
HELP HELP HELP
anyways i have another head from another toyota 22R-E motor in my shed it came with a bunch of parts in the box of the truck when i bought my 4x4 1988 short box...
So i suspect its a 1988 head
i noticed on the 1988 head it has a number 13 and then 11
but the 1992 has 13 then number 9???
is it possible that these heads are different or can i swap the cam , valves and rockers from the 1992 and put them in the bare head of the 1988?
Basically are what im trying to figure out is the heads the same or not?
one other thing is this the head of the 1988 is missing the valves rockers and cam ,,, Soooo....
any help would be appreciated..
heres some pics
Thanks LAKOTA

YA THE cylinders look ok except one!
i might have to break out the extra fine grit sand paper i guess
what grade of fine paper should i use?
1500? i notice a lil bit or rust from it sitting all winter with the cracked head!!
GEEEEEE hope it works...i did diesel the head for about a week cause it was froze/// SEIZED...
im sure with a bit of elbow grease i could take out the little rust ridges in the cylinder..when running my finger nail in the cylinder i feel the lil
flaw... Like i said should be able to fine sand it out..
YEAH HAWWWW!!! lol Think im crazy?

hi pismo thanks your giving me good advise and i appreciate it completely,,
however i have used 1500 grit sand paper before for cleaning up cylinders walls,, i have taken the green scotch cleaning pads and placed them on my honing pads so its just enough to take out the imperfections in the cylinder walls meaning the rust scars... I find some hones way to rough and strong,,anyways....
,im not saying take some sand paper and go HAWGGG wild on your cylinders
im saying with your hand and the motor still together you can feel the areas you need to lightly sand the areas one needs too just smooth and even out the areas ...cause with your hand you can get very precise..
Cause all im trying to do is get this motor up and running again im not out to make cash on some one for a rebuild.
So basically this if i can get out the light rust scars i wont have to worry about breaking a ring and in time the rings will wear clean the cylinder anyway
thanks again
