22r coil issues

I had my hood up the other night and my truck started missing.I look over at the coil and a spark caught my eye.The coil is arcing on the metal that attaches to the body.WTF? Is this comman and can i swap out one with say an 83 pick up?

Bump cause i need to know and replace this thing. I have an 83 coil but its still in the parts truck. Its freezing out side so i want to do this as fast as i can

souns like it needs replaced and as long as the part #'s are the same it will work.

I think it has to be 84-88(22R only of course)

84-88 Carbed only. 83 is different. Match Plugs and/or part #'s

I'll bet a coil is a coil in this instance.. If you want a 22RE one, send me a mail.. I've got a spare.

I'm suspicious though.. IF it's arcing to the metal - could be bad insulation (bad coil) - but a bad ground point with the ignitor might have the electrical current seeking an alternate path... High resistance in the wires/cap/rotor/plugs might not help.

Thanks guys.Looks like this weekend i will be putting in some major wrench time on this thing.Im going to replace the alternator and harnes that goes to it because mine keeps falling out for some reason,Coil, plug wires,Bolt up my new webber and throw my header on.

I have a 22re one and an R one here just didnt know what to grab and its been really cold here so i havent wanted to go outside to wrench(garage has 2 trucks that are getting suspension swapped out)
