220k miles on a 22RE 4WD Truck - Too many?

Would you buy a 22RE 4WD Truck with 220k miles? $4500, one owner, never off-roaded.

Seems like a lot of miles...?

What sort of maintenance should I expect to do at this point, with this many miles on it?

Definitely appreciate any input.

Thanks!

For that much money it would have to be perfect.

It all depends just how it was taken care of.

Could be time for another timing chain and other major work and the owner just had enough.''

Just no way to tell without looking in person.

Then where the truck lives says a lot as well.

It should just about be broken in ....

I bought mine (3VZE) at 210k, now at 280k (it's not a daily driver). They will last if babied.

Truck prices are VERY regional; no way I can say if that price is high or low in NC. Check Craigslist (or your local equivalent).

an '85 22re will be worth more than later years, so that is a factor.

can't tell what would need to be done to it without knowing what the p.o. has already done.

I agree with the above. Mileage wouldn't scare me at all, but the price depends on the condition of the truck. I bought my '90 a year ago with 259k on it. The interior was like brand new and there was a very tiny bit of body rust. I paid $3,650. The only thing I did was put a new section of exhaust on it.

My 4Runner's an '85. Had 248k when I bought it. About 80k on it's second 22RE.

Yeah, I probably paid too much but they're great trucks and will last a long time so long as there isn't a lot of rust.

I'd worry about steering (is it sloppy?), wheel bearings, transmission/xfer case (do they whine?) and whether the fluids leak. Not that it'd scare me from the buy, but that's what I'd be preparing to replace.

I 2010 I paid about $2200 for an '87 with 220000mi. in CA with no rust. An '85 is worth more than an 87 because it is the only year that had a solid axle and Electronic Fuel Injection EFI.

Well for the $4500.00 I bought 2 87 4Runners and 2 86 22 RTEC pick ups that with tune ups and minor things like oil changes etc were on the street legal.

Then as the value of the dollar drops you need more to buy less.
