Hey guys anyone know where or how i could mount a spare tire on my rear tailgate like some of the later runners? ive seen done but i just dont know how? theres a pic of one in the new Toyota owners magazine thanks for the help

I asked this question last year sometime, and didn't get a lot of response. But the good news is I know it can be done. I just saw a white 1st gen in Annandale, VA the other morning with what appeared to be a 2nd gen swing away tire carrier. he wasn't carrying the tire, so i could see that it fit well, but we were driving and I couldn't get his attention to pull over or shout out details. If it wasn't a Toyota-based carrier, then it was probably from a Blazer.


In my case, I went instead to a RJR bed mount tire carrier, which looks pretty cool in the rear with the top off, and slides off the mounts if you need to carry cargo. The down side is you can't use the back for cargo AND tire

Build a rear bumper, then build the swing away rack off of the bumper. You can incorporate a gas can and hi-lift jack too.
