1st Gen 4Runner rear 6x9 speaker brackets

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I recently designed some 3D printed speaker brackets to replace the factory rear speakers. I am not a vendor and I am not looking to sell these or anything (I don't have the capacity to print them at scale). What I am looking for is someone I can send my draft prints to so we can verify fitment. I mean they SHOULD fit, but I want to verify on another truck before I make the STL available for people to use. If anyone is interested I can send you a pair of brackets to test out. This utilizes the factory speaker mounts so if your 4Runner doesn't have rear speakers then you won't be able to use these brackets.

For anyone wondering about the 3D print strength... I am a novice at this. But I printed the final product in PETG because I don't live in a hot climate and I never have the hard top on. Thus the interior temp shouldn't get hot enough to warp the plastic. If you were going to use these in a hot climate and/or use your hard top in the summer they should be printed in ABS which I have no experience with.

The factory rear speakers were available as an "after sale" kit that an owner could install after buying the veihicle. So the brackets welded to the interior sheet metal were there, you just had to bolt the speakers in. Wiring was there, too.

maybe it varied by year? When I first started looking into this there were a number of posts on Facebook/reddit etc that showed that area and there was no lower bracket. They all have the upper bracket but at least some trucks came without the lower bracket.

Found one… this is an 86, DLX.

Mine is an 88 top trim with all the options.

Maybe. Early on there were a few 4Runner variations that were really stripped down. No rear seats, vinyl floor instead of carpet, etc. Pretty bleak units.
But I do remember ordering the rear speaker kit listed in the accessory catalog. And Toyota wouldn't list them if they weren't "plug and play".

wow so did you buy yours new? That’s pretty cool you actually ordered the speakers from Toyota.

they are actually pretty nice speakers for what they are. The amp on them plays pretty loud. That being said it’s time to retire them :)

Well, being with a dealer gave me access to lots of different catalogs, and a discount. The only catalog I used was the Toyota one, but the Downey off-road catalog was fun to browse. Those oem rear speakers cost me around $50 for the pair.
If you look up 1984-86 4Runners there's 4-5 different 1/4 panel part numbers. But if you go to 87-88 i believe there's only one. so it is possible those speakers weren't made available, as an accessory, till 1987.

These brackets look great, I’ve been looking into a clean solution for my rear speakers to go behind my new flinstone fab inner 1/4 trim. Did you ever make the stl file available? I know my 87 had factory rear speakers back in the day and for sure has the mounting tabs as part of the body. Would love to print and try these out.

Hey! I haven't made it publicly available yet. Sent you a PM

Nice work! I recently did something similar but with a center console bezel for SR5 trim. I think the next thing to do is create a full speaker box around them to make them sound even better.
