Hey crapple. It doesn't look like it but does the shifter contact the cup holder at all? How about when drinks are in it? Thanks.

Might be the perfect cup holder mod.
So, I was searching around trying to find an idea for a cup holder for my 88 pickup, and couldn't find anything that would work for me. Further hunting for a cup holder online eventually led me to a site called Snapitproducts.com, where they make stuff for boats and your wheelchair or walker. Bingo!
I took delivery today of a black heavy duty plastic adjustable ratcheting cup holder. It's perfect because it adjusts to fit big or small cups and bottles just like my favorite holder in my old Plymouth mini van. It's got kind of a neat feature where it swings away to the left from the mounting base if you bump it. (Like if your passenger or dog jumped in and crashed into it.) It swings back over and snaps in to place held by a strong little magnet.
I mated it up with an old cellphone mounting arm, and it's a perfect setup for me. Hope the pictures do it justice. Pros: Good quality construction, good size, good function, made in Texas, and it's the right color. The cons: the holder cost me about $30, and the whole thing kind of big. The way I mounted it up on the old cell phone arm is kind of cool because it adjusts almost infinitely and it's all by friction, so it's pretty much impossible to rip it off or break it. The glove box opens up without hitting anything and all the controls work without interference. I can even see everything on the dash. I'm pretty proud of myself.

I don't have a photo but my old tercel wagon had no cup holders so I went to a local bike shop and bought 2 waterbottle cages and screwed them to the dash in my old d21 pickup I had pvc screwed in to the dash eather side of the center console. When all elce fails you can use a role of duct tape on the floor to hold a drink like I did in the k2500 that I had as a company vehical when I was working in Denver

Back to Cup Holders... I relocated my console switches because the stock location is where we would spill our drinks. That left good real estate for a cup holder. However, the stock console has too much dead, unusable space that traps little things, so I plan to someday replace it with something more utilitarian and secure.
Meanwhile this interim solution works for me... Disclaimer: Not Tested For Rock Crrawling - LOL!
I bought this Boatmates cup holder, available from West Marine Site, Academy Sports & Outdoors, etc...
Trimmed it a little...
Need to secure it inside the opening somehow...
Fits anything from "standard" coffer mug to skinny travel cup.
