1st & 2nd Gen IFS differential question...
Well, a month ago my half shaft slipped out of the differnential because the CV axle broke, after going through different exploded diagrams I became more confused...
Question: Is there a C-clip inside the differential holding the half shaft in place?
In my Haynes manual it never said anything about a C-clip if you were to remove the half shaft, but when I went to toyota to find out how much new seals would cost, the sheet that was printed out seems to have a C-clip holding the half shaft Im going to pismo when I get back on 7/9, hope I can go with 4wd!
Thanks in advance!

Yes. There's nothing else to hold the shaft in place. Altough I am curious what bolts up to the four-bolt flange on the end of the axle tube. You'll have to forgive me, never personally dug into an IFS front end.

Jake's right - I just pulled one of these apart for the first time a few weeks ago. Toyota makes a SST that is like a big slide hammer to pull the axle out. I just persuaded it with a dead blow mallet. Came out really easy. Goes back in just as easy.

WoW, thanks guys! So since the shaft is back in place I shouldnt worry about the spring clip? That means I dont have to take the differential apart?! Is the clip numbered 41304H in Dave's picture a spring clip? So its safe to go in 4WD and not worry about crushing a clip?
Sorry for all the extra questions
Thanks!

yup its a sring clip, just like the ones on air tools.... they do not get removed prior to intalation/removal of the CV axle..... on C-Clip axles lie kthe ford 8.8" and such, they do need to be removed.. but those axles are a completely differnt animal all together
