1995 4runner lost 3rd and 4th gear-clutch bracket broken

Hello,
Have a 1995 4runner, 5 speed with 4wd and 3.0 engine. After trial and error and reading forums, found I had (notice I say "had") two problems- 1 was the infamous shifter bushing and seat, 2 was the clutch pedal bracket that had broken. So here is the story, the typical hard shifting issue came up, I replaced the shifter bushing and adjusted the "throw" on the clutch pedal, seemed to work ok for a few days. Son-in-law was driving, the shifting issue came back, he went to shift gears again (2nd to 3rd), said he heard a loud POP (clutch bracket I assume), would not go into third so I think he forced it...and now... NO THIRD AND 4TH GEAR!!! This is when I found out the bracket is broken, so I got that out, and will be getting it welded up. Problem is, 3rd and 4th...nothing. 1st, 2nd, reverse and 5th are all working, without the clutch even, but still working and grabbing ok. Clutch is not spinning, slave or master not leaking...the big question here is, if he lost 3rd and 4th, is this a shift fork issue? If so, bent or broken? I have searched these forums, read many stories about all of this with the exception of this shift fork. If I am right, I am assuming this means a complete removal of the trans, pulling it all apart and fixing this. Another question is, do you have to rebuild the tranny while you are doing this (shift fork)? Is there a way to replace the shift fork(s) without removing the transmisson?

Btw, truck has 200k on it, all appears to be in good working order except for this.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.
John

Re: Lost 3rd, 4th, clutch bracket

Little update on this, I had the bracket welded up, got it all back together, it shifts fine now, the clutch works well...but alas, still no 3rd and 4th.

Anyone have any ideas? Throw me a bone here please!

Thanks

Bent 3-4 shift fork. Tranny disassembly inevitable.

Never let a son in law drive your truck.

That is what I thought. So obviously I have to take the whole thing out...is it worth just trying to fix the fork, or should I just look for another tranny from a junkyard? Plus a new clutch??

You would have to inspect it to be sure...bet someone on here has one laying around. Might as well do clutch throwout bearing pilot bearing while you have it out. If the rear main seal is leaking...theres another opportunity as well.
