Automatic Tranny
3.slow

I can get good acceleration from 0 to 35 if I choose to put the pedal to the metal. But when it hits 35, it takes forever to get up to 55 mph.

It scares me when entering a freeway and I cant match speeds with the flowing traffic. its worse when the meters are on (im in CA) and I come from a dead stop, but the freeway traffic is going 65 mph.

Is this common? Is there a fix?

Need more info, Sub. Has it always been this way? Or are you a new owner and just getting used to/don't know your vehicle yet? Does it seem to be missing? Does it stumble at a specific RPM?

I don't know how relevant this is, but I have the 22RE auto. I had the exact same problem and I tried all the tune up stuff and finally checked out my Throttle position sensor (TPS). It never snapped back into the 0 position and the spring inside was worn out. I replaced it and now I feel like I am driving a fully functioning vehicle. It uses all the gears instead of trying to lug up to speed in overdrive. I actually feel it use 2nd and 3rd gear when moving on the on ramp to the highwway. Before it would only switch into 2nd if I floored it and then snap back into overdrive. (of course I don't even know if a 3.0 has a TPS)

I just bought it. 186k miles. It was a daily driver from the previous owner. Drove about 80 miles per day in bumper to bumper traffic.
I guess it is missing the 2nd and 3rd gear. Once i get it up to 55mph, theres a lot of power up to 80 mph.

pull your engine codes and see if the o/d light blinks, could be a bad solenoid in the tranny which are common on the a340's but easy to change
