1994 4Runner 3.0 Kickdown cable

Hey everyone. Feels good to be back in the Toyota family. I picked up a 1994 4runner 3.0. It’s in great shape and needs a few things here and there.

It runs pretty good but has some trouble down shifting when you step on the throttle. I did some poking around and found the kickdown cable sheathing is broken away from the cable and adjuster. Seems there’s only one place that has these now. It’s called yotashop. Not sure if anyone has the oem part number for it or a work around to fix the broken one.

I’ve been away from these things for so long and so much has changed, websites don’t work anymore, pictures are no longer there…..

Thanks again everyone.

Just called my local Toyota dealer and they actually found one that can be here tomorrow! 150$. A little steep but not to bad for having it tomorrow! I just hope it’s the right one when it shows up.

FWIW, you don't have a "kick-down" cable. The Transmission throttle cable (the one you need to replace) adjusts how hard the transmission shifts, not when. (When is determined by the computer.) If it's frayed you need to replace it, but I would be surprised if it really helped your down-shift issue. If you get to that point, this might help: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Media/Supra/...taTech/h16.pdf

Thanks for the information. I was thinking about changing out the shift solenoids as well.

I am currently fighting a leaking new ECT sensor that I put in. And it’s acting crazy on the gauge

Again, FWIW, the ECT sensor and the gauge sensor are different.

Here's the FSM link for the A340H (which is the transmission you probably have; it's on the driver's side door pillar). http://web.archive.org/web/201208020...autotrans.html

The one I’m chasing is the gauge sensor. The brass sending unit with the 1 wire plug.

I didn’t do this when I brought it home, but the temp now climbs when it downshifts and rpm’s climb while going up a decent hill. I’m in SWPA, so there’s actually hills.

Now I am thinking my TPS is no good or way out of adjustment. I just ran through all the tests and it failed every one of them. This makes sense because I cannot get the 4runner into base timing when I jumper the diag port, and it’s very sluggish and has hardly any power

Gizler00 06-06-2023 05:02 PM

So I ran the 4crawler and FSM test on the TPS and here are the readings I got.

Vta-E2. No reading/infinite
IDL-E2. 5.48 Ohms
IDL-E2. 5.47 Ohms
Vta-E2. No reading/ infinite.

these were done with the appropriate feeler gauges and the WOT test. Looks like it’s no bueno. I need to take the TB off and remove the TPS and check some things out
