I'm not familiar with EFI gadgets, but it looks about the same size and shape as the resonator in my carbed truck. If it has a similarly sized hose coming out the side I'll bet that's what it is. The resonator (oddly named) is a silencer for the PAIR system. PAIR sends air into the exhaust to help burn remaining fuel and help the catalytic converter work better.

What harm is it causing? Removing stuff indiscriminately, particularly from an EFI system, is asking for trouble. I'd leave it alone.

Is NOT part of the EGR. Its the Pulsed-secondary Air Injection resonator. The PAIR "injects" clean, fresh air into the exhaust while warming up to help clean the exhaust so emissions are lower at warm-up. You arent gaining or losing anything by blocking it off, other than: higher emissions out-put, it IS illegal, regardless of whether you have emissions testing in your state/county, and your cat can possibly be warn out faster. Possibly cause your O2 sensor to read rich, therefore causing the comp to slightly decrease the fuel injector opening time, making you actually run lean.

What 4x4907 said, plus I heard that it makes a lot of extra noise if it's removed.

I suppose, if you're ok with the likely chance of dirt and water getting into your fuel tank. I don't think your fuel pump will thank you for that.

off topic, but do you have a pic of your whole engine bay? i'd like to see how they did the intake/battery swap and were able to fit the whole airbox in there - everyone else seems to go with a cone filter and i assumed it was because the box didn't fit.

LOL. To me, cleaning up the engine bay is such a low priority, and a weird thing to do. I do not, and will likely never think that I am smarter than a Toyota engineer. When anybody goes in and starts removing stock parts, he or she is asking for problems down the road.

I saw this kind of thing all the time working on motorcycles and ATVs. And guess what, I was fixing it because of some mod the owner did to it. LOL!

But, then again, I'm happy with stock performance since I'm not racing my truck.

I did a similar intake/battery swap and it was the simplest thing.. if you want to know how to go about it send me an email.

This is where i connected the ground battery terminal .. right to the block

I bought a plastic battery tray $6.00 from Advance Auto Parts:

This is the flat bar bracket that holds up the AFM i made out of aluminum flat bar from Home Depot $3.00
