im trying to sort out my surf overheating issues...i purchased it with the assumption of a cracked head but im not so sure after farting around with it for a while...tho ive yet to do a compression test on it mostly because i havent got a diesel compression tester yet... my gut is leading me to try a few other items first. the rad i looked at the other day and noticed half was warm and the other side cold. im thinking a blockage, likely stop leak or some other rad fix goo. the overflow was full of tiny metal silt sized particles.

so, i removed the rad and right away felt like it was full of something still. also i have to say it only drained a couple or few ltrs of coolant, tho i only drained the rad left the engine alone for now. its very heavy for a rad i noticed, but at the same time is the first diesel rad ive encountered so dunno if they are generally heavier....tho i also have a rad for my 1kzte and it wasnt any heavier than any others ive ever lifted...so im leanjng towards it being full of something like stop leak...

i guess the question is, how much fluid does the 2lte surf radiator hold? and how heavy is it supposed to be empty?

not sure what the alternatives are, ive got a spare 3vze rad and the 1kzte rad isnt being used either...but was planning to use it sooner than later in another project so would rather use something else if possible. any advice on this issue would be helpful! i tried flushing the rad last night and while it did clean out a bunch of small stuff it still feels like its full of something. it doesnt move around and seems like water is being restricted perhaps, tho it still does move through the rad well enough. could i use a solvent to remove the crap better or is it not worth pursuing? not sure yet what a replacement will cost but i wasnt able to find much help regarding specs via the search function...
