1990 A340H into a 1994 4runner?
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if an auto transmission out of a 1990 4runner with swap into my 1994?
Will the cable driven speedo or ecm cause any issues?

did your 94 have auto as well? if so it should be fine, they didn't change the transmission much. over the years lol.
what are the specs on both trucks? do the transmissions look the same? (wiring, cables, body, 2 oil pans, etc)
I'm swapping a rebuilt a340h into my 86 today actually lol.

Well, you've stated the problem already. The 90 will likely have a cable driven speedo, and your 94 will have electronic. So will need to run the cable and swap out the cluster for a cable driven setup.
That being said you rig will probably run just fine without a speedometer until you can make it work correctly.

Check, You may be able to convert the cable part of the A340H to the electric from your old trans Or https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f107...1765-a-270178/, lol
It has electric speedo.

if you decide you don't need a working speedo (like need your truck sooner than later) keep the cable in and just zip tie it somewhere safe out of the way.
buddy of mine didn't think speedo cables actually went into the transmission and couldn't figure out why he started leaking fluid from the rear end of the trans... (Ford...)
