Question 1988 3vze 4runner w/ '91 engine, need clues

I have a 1988 4runner original 3vze. I put a running '91 3vze A/T engine in it($50). the ecu is original to the engine, I also have a stick ecu. however the truck is a 5spd... I hot wired the starter.

the Ih2 connectors are different but Ih1 plugged right in. Does anyone know what wires from Ih2 are needed?

I got a wiring harness from a 91 extra-cab, but Ih1 is different so that did not work at all, but I got the correct Ih2 plug so I have something to work from.

I have +12 on pin 1 of the ecu, but not pin 12 & 13. I think thats the crux of my problem.

I am missing something. I need a clue.

Can you start at the beginning?

You have a 3VZ out of a 5 speed and you're putting it into an AT?

You shouldn't have to do anything to your existing computer or harness, you change over the sensors on your motor?

The 91 engine is originally an A/T. I switched it to a stick engine w/ clutch. So there are extra wires underneath for the A/T that simply have no home anymore. I just got a stick ecu from a 91 extra cab yesterday. So those wires may not matter anymore.

I get no voltage to the distributor either.

I got the truck it had a sbc in it, so the previous owner has done some bad things. He wanted a "mall cruiser" with a big bad stereo. Broke his back and could not finish it. So I bought it and all the parts he had, minus the engine. hence the 91 3vze that i thought could work in it, but is obviously not plug compatible.

Ok, plan B

I do not have a correct '88 engine, the previous owner got rid of it, and left me with an SBC short block in its place. I only have the '91, so I must go to plan "B" and make the '91 engine "think" its in a '91. I have two '91 ECU's 1 A/T and 1 M/T, with the M/T installed. The '91 engine ran perfect prior to being pulled, so I seriously doubt its the problem.

I found a statement on Supra swaps that IH2 was instrumentation only. So that leaves IH1 which is plug compatitible.

So I must be missing +B to IH1 pin ????? in another place since I have +B on pin 1 of the ECU. It must somehow back feed to pins 12 & 13 on the ECU connector T2.

Anyone have the IH1 pinouts? There must be a 2nd +B somewhere in that connector. It must missing due to some unseen damage in the chassis harness, from an alarm system patch probably.

The sbc swap would make life easier.... You can get a bellhousing adapter for the stock M/T.

Yes the SBC swap would have been easier but it was missing way too many parts, and needed machine work. I still think about that and kept the Advanced Adapter mounts for later.

I have two of these trucks now, the 22re runs fine with 330k miles and the v6 has yet to start. LOL

yes; like a 22re that I have a matching transmission and transfer case for, but no engine. So like a fool I thought this 3vze would be a plug compatible easy cheap swap, and not a fool's errand its turning into.......

I think the blue one is getting a 3mgte swap, along with a Marlin Crawler 4:70 xfer case gear swap. maybe even an FJ80 front diff.

well i also have a rebuilt 22re here with all the harnesses lol
might say i have a toyota boneyard here. but we actually just finished putting a 22RE into an 88 runner and had to make custom mounts because the perches on the frame where your motor mounts bolt are like 2" futher back on a v6 frame *fyi*

Making progress!!!!

Moved pin 2 B/R to pin 8 ; now I have power to coil and igniter.

Still need to find pins 12 & 13 on the ECU battery voltage.

Getting closer!

Starting fluide and a little gas down its throat and I am getting some exhaust gases!

The fuel pump is not turning on now so I might have lost the injectors.

testing!!!

Ok; got it running!

Three hot leads, one is battery for memory (non-switched) two are hot from efi relay. Black red wire; pins 11 & 12 are from EFI and pin 1 memory. I have three wires in a makeshift harness to supply power and ground.

Hot wire the CSI with +12 for no more than 3 sec's or else. Functions as a manual choke or squirter on a carb. aka pump the gas pedal.

Roll key to start to run fuel pump, (until I find fc signal on ecu to run pump)
