1987 Toyota pickup problems

As the title says I’m having problems and know nothing about them.
I can say the guy I got it from replaced the head and it runs drives doesn’t overheat at all.
When he had it it was fine since I’ve owned it in the last 3 months it’s went down hill.
Driving down the road after it warms up it only does this. Say your cruising say 50mph and stay steady on the accelerator it starts missing like crazy. If you give it a little more pedal it’ll clear up until it catches up.
Next problem is backfiring. It does this cold or hot and only backfire through the exhaust.
Any help is greatly appreciated

I would check timing, then pull spark plugs to se what color they are, then go through the carb and clean jets, check the float bowl
maybe some garbage in there, check the fuel filter.
.
I am sure somebody else will chime in.
Got a FSM for the truck yet?

What’s fsm

FSM is a service manual for the truck. It is what Toyota sent out to dealers and such to service them, I think it stands for Fleet Service Manual.
