1986 Toyota 4x4 SR5 Fully Loaded With Options - Needs a little TLC

Hello Guys,

I purchased this truck a few years back, garaged it, kept it nice, started it all the time, drove it once in a while and now the AC unit died on me. Just when I was planning to use it more, 90+ deg outside, so it's a great time for it to go out lol.

My shop did a dye test and stated it's leaking from the compressor.

Anyway is it safe to buy a AC compressor off a salvage yard, same year 22RE and such, they are providing a warranty, 6 months though. Ships free @$75 which includes the clutch. Or am I asking for trouble?

One thing to note, the AC system was converted back on 2002 on the 86 I own to 134a, so would a R10 savage yard 86 stock be a mistake? I have no idea what the conversion means, other than no more R10.

Thanks for any help.

If you don't want to mess with it in the future buy a new compressor. They only go bad once in a blue moon. A rebuilt Denso is just under 200$ on rock auto.

Just replace the O rings that go on the service ports top of the compressor and that's it, get one of this, you'll get everything you need. http://www.autozone.com/cooling-heat...ders-r-2-4l-fi
