1986 4Runner no start

1986 Toyota 4Runner , 22re 5 speed .
yesterday the truck just fine as normal, all maitence has been kept up and is 100% up to date . I woke up to drive myself to the ER as I’ve been having some kidney issues and the truck would turn over fine but it wouldn’t ever start fully , it sounded like she wanted too but I smelled gas and still no start . So I popped the hood and all fuses were fine , vacuum lines were all good as well, plugs, wires, distributer cap & rotor were all replaced 3 months ago . I’ve ran seafoam in the tank as well as a little in the motor every 2 oil changes . I read on a different forum about uncrewing the gas cap and it will mysteriously crank . So that’s what it did and it cranked up . If anyone knows or has any ideas on why this worked or what the real issue is any suggestions are helpful , I do have a entire parts truck at my disposal.

There are two one way vents in the system, one or both have failed.

If the evap system fails, allows preßure to release from the tank, it could be the charcoal canister or a pinched/crushed line. The tank builds pressure when the temperature shifts. You will hear the fuel tank vent when you release the fuel cap (Pssshh, sound). This can cause a flood situation.

If the tank cap fails, it's supposed to only let in fresh air, the fuel pump is fighting to collapse the tank. IE any fuel that doesn't return to the tank adds to the vacuum. (Sssthump, sound).. This creates a fuel starvation issue.
