whats the easiest engine swap
 

i have a 84 pickup 4x4 with a 22r i wanna put a biger and more efficiant motor in it what the easiest one to put in it as far as differant wiring and stuff

i would go 3rz, and get the offroad solutions wiring kit for it.

define bigger and more efficient... more power and better MPG's. What size of tire are you running? If they are larger have changed gearing?

Chevy 350...my dad got 18mpg regularly on a 91 Suburban.

Doubtful its "easy" but define "easy"

I would Also Say 3rz, That's what I'm gonna try to get.

The easiest swap is to buy another truck. Srsly.

how about you go to the engine swap page on this forum and do a little research instead of asking stupid questions. if your asking what is the easiest engine swap, that tells me you probably dont have the skills to do it anyways.

I am in the middle of a 4.3 vortech swap after doing a ton of research- mostly opinions of Marlin, pirate4x4 and yotatech members and it seemed to offer the best power, torque, fit, value, durability and ease of installation. some say the 3.8 buick is easier but only slightly and it has overheating problems w less power.
I had a 94 4.3 1/2 ton ex cab work truck that I put 278,000 miles on without any problems 17-18 mpg.

Molly, I agree that 85toy's post could have been a little more tactful, but I kind of agree. The OP's question is so open ended.





A major decision for a swap is going to come down to the size of your budget.

Just do a ton of research before you start, that $100 engine somebody offers you down the road may not be such a good deal as it seemed.

Personally I am leaning towards a 4.3 FI Chevy. Been done a million times, tons of info and you can get parts from any Parts store in the country...

I agree, ive ridden in his 4runner and it fully gets it with stock gears on 33s.

ya just have to rev it to 4500 rpms.

Screw the the 3.0 and do a 3.4! So much more worth it!

So maybe I'm young, naive, and totally uneducated, but I love the 22re, I'm running 35's on it right now and the truck weighs nearly 4500 lbs with the added armor, roll cage, bumper, full size spare, tools, and jack, and I get 18 mpg easy with plenty of grunt.
