What wheels and tires for my 1985 4runner build

I have a 1985 4runner that I am completely rebuilding. This question is in regard to the disc brake conversion I have put on the rear. It will not fit the stock 15" wheels as the disc and caliper is in the way. I bought the kit from Trailgear and they said I will need 17" wheels to run the disc conversion. I'd like to put 35" tires on and don't know if I will need spacers and what wheels I should buy. I know they need to be 17" but the wheel width is still unknown, spacers needed unknown, tire width with/without spacers unknown. It has been suggested for me to buy 17"x9" steel wheels with 35"x12.5" tires. Will this fit without spacers front and back? Thanks

there are variables like offset and backspacing to consider that you won't know until you focus on a wheel
https://tires.tirerack.com/tires/Whe...%20Backspacing

Any reputable wheel shop should be able to test fit a wheel for you to see if they will clear your calipers
That being said some shops won't work on a truck if it has wheel spacers

What's your plan for a parking/e-brake since the T-G kit doesn't provide for one?
did you go with the economy kit or the full kit?

I can't take it to a shop as it's up on block and the original wheels and tires were already sold I got the full kit. I have an e-brake that fits onto the transfer case if I remember correctly. I bought tons of parts for this build. Transmission, engine, axles front and rear, gears (3rds) have already been rebuilt. Working on suspension right now, cutting off all the old mounts to weld on new ones and new steering box.

I just thought someone on the forums has done this before and might have some insight. Of course once I rebuild the suspension and get the axles back on, I can simply measure how much room I have and go from there.

I think if you are upgrading to a 17" wheel then a spacer isn't needed. According to LCEngineering

*This kit will not work with OEM Factory Original 15" Wheels. The use of a 1" wheel spacer will be required for factory wheels with a backset over 2 1/2" deep.

That's what I thought, the 17" wheel should work fine without spacers. I will be putting 35" x 12.5" tires on and my only concern is that the larger wheel will have 8.5-11" width and some added width with the tires and I don't want them to rub the frame in the back. I also don't want the fronts rubbing on a full turn left or right. Was hoping someone had done this before as they are common conversions and common tire sizes and knows if it will fit or not. I guess I just have to buy them, slap em on and see if I need spacers afterwards Thanks for the input.

Just bought some. Talked in a 3 way call with 4wheelparts and trailgear to figure it out. Turns out I could get some pro comps 15x10 with 2.5" backspacing to clear the brake conversion and they fit 35" tires. $1300 for 4 wheels, 4 BFG all terrains, 24 lugs with mount and balance, no tax and shipped for free to my garage. Not too bad I guess. Thanks for the help guys.

that is a good deal. I wanted to get the AT's but ended up with the BFG MT's because they were a few $$ cheaper
