Vin and IFS mistery
Hello guys! I'm new here. Posting from Costa Rica, partly living back and forth from Maryland. I recently acquired a first generation here in CR and been wondering about some things that don't make much sense. So I joined and figured I must ask here as you guys have been doing this longer.
This car is registered as a 1984, but has a 22re and IFS. Vin number is jt3rn65w8e5025428, which makes sense an an 84. Model number is Rn60lg-msa, which makes sense as an 84. And this other number:033ks11g29wg52 that I could not read what it is. All plates on jamb, bay and/or dash have been painted over and are completely illegible. I cant see no weld mark on the chassis for torsion bar mounts, upper arms or anything that suggest solid axle swap. The 22re shouldn't be in a 84, neither IFS. Am I correct? |
Well using the Olathe Toyota VIN decoder, it says that VIN is a 1984 with a 22r. Perhaps your body got swapped onto a later frame with 22re engine and your VIN plate stayed with the body. I`m not sure if the VIN is etched into the frame anywhere, maybe someone can chime in that knows.
I just went out and looked at mine, which is 1988 and might be different for 1984, I don`t know but front passenger side of the frame right behind wheel there is a plate there (RN61-0207348), the 7 digits there after the dash match the last 7 digits of my VIN number. |
That's a possibility I never considered. I'm going to look for the engine number on the block to see if it matches

I edited my post, there is a VIN like number on the frame.
