truck squealing

okay to start, i have a 85 toyota 4x4 with the long bed. I just put new brake pads on it 500 miles ago, and now (without touching the brakes) it squeals going down the road. All i know is, is its coming from the front 2 tires

I think between the steering issue on the other thread, and the brakes squealing, that truck needs some love.... First did you apply any of the anti-squeal gluey type stuff to the back of the pads? Did they have the anti squeal liners(thin metal spacer looking things attached to the non-friction side of the pad)? And also, did you get the cheapest pads possible? They are usually made with cheaper components and dont handle heat well, so they glaze over and squeal.

Also, I noticed you're in Ga, where at? I am just west of Augusta...

My trucks just got some small problems. I new to toyota's and dont really know much about them or the components. They're duralast brake pads and yes i did add the lubricant. But it squeals when i dont even apply the brakes. Just driving in a strait line it squeals.

I don't put any of that grease on the back of the pads and I have never had a comeback for noisy brakes, IMO all that stuff does is collect a bunch of dirt and junk. Check for a rock stuck between the backing plate and the rotor or sometimes the backing plate will get bent and hit the rotor, also another good way to narrow it down is to lift the front wheels off the ground and spin them, remove the wheel and spin it again while looking for the cause of the noise.

the stupid little spring that goes from one pad to the other (shaped kinda like a "v") has caused a squeal on my truck before due to rubbing on the rotor. if thats it just tweak it a little.
