TPS: Adjust or Replace
 
I just finished checking the resistance between terminals on the TPS ( 89 22RE). All appeared to be within limits except for IDL-E2 @ .022" was showing Infinity. FSM value is listed at < 2.3K Ohms. Is this something that adjusting will fix or is this telling me the TPS is defective ? I have been getting Code 41 along with Codes 25 and 26.

Well, if you replace it you will have to adjust it. You could practice adjusting it to see if it will go within spec, if it won't, replace it and you will be a pro at adjusting it already! Under normal conditions the mounting screws are in the middle of the slots of the TPS, so if you max out either way, that's a good indication that it needs replacement.

If your TPS makes the idle transition (below 2300 to infinite) but it will do it at 0.90mm instead of at 0.85mm does this mean the TPS is bad? Probably not, if everything else checks out, you may just be seeing the effect of the manufacturing tolerances of the TPS and the throttle body stacking up and pushing the setting outside the "normal" range. But if the TPS never makes the idle transition (i.e. it reads infinite at all throttle openings) then it is bad.
If I am reading this correctly then my TPS is faulty.

Sounds about right. It is that low IDL-E2 resistance that tells the ECU the throttle is closed and that puts it into the stable idle mode. Hard to set timing with that reading out of spec:

I did some thinking about how the TPS is adjusted and today I decided to see what thickness of feeler gauge would get me to the resistive strip and that turns out to be .017-.018. The yellow marking paint appears to be intact and the screws are centered in the slots so it appears the TPS has never been adjusted. I'll give it a try the next break in the weather.

Pulled off thermostat gooseneck and adjusted TPS. No more TPS code.
